Dear AIMagn members,

Here is the 4th issue of the AIMagn newsletter for 2024, with information on open positions available in our members’ groups and an important Prize to be awarded during the ICM 2024 Conference.

AIMagn Gold Medal Award

  • AIMagn is proud to announce the launch of the AIMagn Gold Medal Award. This prestigious award will honour a scientist in the Italian community for extraordinary achievements in the area of magnetism and for significant activities in promoting Italian research in magnetism in the international community.

The prize’s first edition will be awarded during the next ICM 2024 to be held in Bologna (30th June- 5th July).

Interested candidates should submit their applications at segreteria@aimagn.org. Any member can put forward the names of potential candidates. The deadline to submit nominations is June 28th, 2024. The awardee will be selected by an evaluating commission of experts in the field of magnetism.

The AIMAGN Gold Medal Award will be presented every two years. The next edition will be awarded during the MAGNET 2026 conference.

Ph.D Position in Physics – University of Perugia

The University of Perugia offers in the next call for admission to the 40th Cycle in Ph.D., a 3-year position in Physics to carry out research on “Dynamical properties of magnetic nanostructures” within the group of Dr. Gianluca Gubbiotti and Dr. Silvia Tacchi[CR1] a.

The group of CNR-Istituto Officina dei Materiali is interested in the dynamic properties of planar and vertical magnonic systems studied by Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy and microscopy.

The deadline for submitting the candidacy is July 4, 2024.

Senior Scientist – Technical Lead for Magnetic Thin Films, Spintronic Applications and Magnetic MEMS (Silicon-Austria Labs, Villach)

Job duration: Permanent contract;
Deadline for application: 31-12-2024

Requested profile:

  • A distinguished record of at least 10 years of research, innovation and leadership in the area of micro-nano magnetic materials and spintronic systems
  • Strong practical expertise in developing magnetic material microfabrication processes, ideally for industrial applications on 200-300 mm wafers, design, fabrication and characterization of magnetic materials and spintronics-based technologies
  • Experience in project management of research projects with multiple partners
  • Experience with supervision of a small group of experienced researchers and engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire funding, ideally beyond academic research programs, and to collaborate with the industry
  • Strong scientific track record evidenced by peer-reviewed journal publications and invited talks at international conferences
  • Detailed knowledge of the worldwide market and European industrial ecosystem in the areas of spintronics and magnetic microsystems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, German is a plus
  • Genuine interest in applied research, industrial applications, and scientific progress

News from the Association

  • The deadline for submitting bids for organizing the next National Conference on Magnetism, Magnet2026 expired on June 15th. The board received a couple of candidatures and will decide within September.
  • The current Board of AIMagn will expire at the end of this year, and none of its members can be re-elected. Anyone willing to be elected to the next Board is kindly requested to start thinking about it. The elections will take place at the end of the year, most likely coupled with an event organized by the Association such as a Colloquium, to stimulate the participation of the members.
